Course Information
Description Presentation of the theory and practice of chemical reformation. Topics include terminology, application, and workplace competencies related to chemical reformation.

Instructor Policies    CELLPHONE POLICY

1. Students may NOT use their cell phone/smart watch during theory and lab time. Cell phones are not allowed on the lab floor, theory classroom during theory, in your pocket, reception desk, dispensary or supply caddy. When not in use, cell phones should be turned off or on silent. Students may use their cellphones/smart watch on BREAK and BREAK ONLY and in designated areas ONLY. (Theory classroom, break room, gazebo area)

2. Smart watch is NOT allowed during an exam. Violators will receive a ZERO if wearing a smart watch during an exam.
3. Office phones and the front desk phones are off limits to all students unless authorized by an instructor.

Cellphone Disciplinary Action

1st offense: A written Notification and 1 Hour off the clock
2nd & additional offenses: A written Notification and half day suspension


All students must inform their instructor before clocking out; when leaving the building, going to the car, break or going home for the day.

*TDLR mandates that any student enrolled in a cosmetology program must clock out when leaving the facility.*

The following regulations have been adopted by Lamar State College-Port Arthur.
2.1. All campus buildings are designated "smoke free." Included in this designation are all
instructional facilities; faculty, staff, and administrative offices; and student services areas.
2.2. Tobacco products include all types of tobacco, cigarettes, cigars, smokeless tobacco,
electronic cigarettes, pipes and hookahs.
2.3. The use of all tobacco products is prohibited on campus.
2.4. The sale of tobacco products on campus is prohibited.
2.5. Smoking is prohibited in those campus-owned vehicles that are available for general
use.
2.6. As used in this policy, the term "smoking" shall include all of the following:
2.6.1. Carrying or holding a lighted pipe, cigar, cigarette, or any other lighted smoking equipment
Or device;
2.6.2. Lighting a pipe, cigar, cigarette, or any other smoking equipment or device;
2.6.3. Emitting or exhaling the smoke of a pipe, cigar, cigarette, or any other smoking equipment
Or device.
2.7. The Tobacco Free Workplace Policy applies to college facilities used by off-campus groups
As well as college groups.


DRESS CODE POLICY

A professional attire is required at all times..

1. SOLID BLACK Lab Jacket of Vest.
2. The uniform must be ironed & wrinkle-free.
3. Approved Lamar Cosmetology t-shirts (Optional
4. No hoodies.
5. Jewelry - Limit your jewelry for safety, sanitation and practicality.
6. Tennis shoes or workforce shoes or peep-toe shoes must be worn at all times.
7. No hats, caps, wave caps or wrap caps, scarves allowed while on the clock.
8. LSCPA Cosmetology emblem ONLY displayed on your lab jacket or scrub top (Optional).
9. All non-compliance jackets MUST be removed before clocking in.
10. Hair must be neat and presentable daily. (Remember you are your biggest advertisement)
11. Nails should be well trimmed and manicured. Artificial nails are acceptable if trimmed to
a ?practical length?.
12. Uniforms and shoes will be monitored and checked on a regular basis.

Dress Code Violation:

Failure to comply with these requirements will result in the loss of hours and sent home until in compliance with LSCPA cosmetology dress code.


*Upon clocking in, all students must be in their assigned classroom or lab and on task at all times. Any student MIA / not on task for an extend amount of time will be clocked out by their instructor.*
Attendance Policy    ATTENDANCE POLICY

Regular class attendance is important to the attainment of the educational objectives of the college. The cosmetology program has formulated an attendance policy that is consistent with the objectives of the program and the needs of the student to fulfill all necessary requirements needed.

In reality, there are no excused absences in Cosmetology. TDLR requires that a student can only acquire credit/clock hours if they are under the direction of a licensed Cosmetology instructor and show proof of their attendance.
Students should make every attempt to be on time and in class each day.
It?s the student?s responsibility to make up assignments missed.

Students may clock in as soon as the clock is turned on until 8 a.m.

Students are tardy at 8:01 a.m. Students who are tardy will not be allowed to clock in until AFTER FIRST BREAK at 9:45 a.m.

Tardy students will be counted absent at 9:46 a.m.

A.M. absences may NOT clock until 12:00 p.m., unless authorized by an instructor.
Upon clocking in, the student must check in with their instructor for any assignments missed.

The time clock is used for TDLR attendance verification. Each student is assigned a code to clock in; it is your responsibility to clock in and out each day.
No student may clock in or out for another.

Students must clock out for their 30 minute lunch break.
Failure to clock out and in after break or lunch may result in an absence.
Students not clocking out for lunch will be in violation and disciplinary action will be taken.

Students are responsible for all materials covered in class. If you quit coming to class and do not officially withdraw, your grades will be averaged, and you will receive the grade represented by this average.
Administrative details are your responsibility.


Make-up exams will NOT be given. Any missed exam due to an Excused Absence Only, will be replaced with your lowest unit exam grade. This replacement is only allowed once per class. Final exams are exempt, students must be present for all final exams.

Students are allotted ONE Excused Absence per class, due to medical emergency ONLY. Documentation from a physician will be required your upon return, for medical and family emergencies in order to substitute the score for missed exam.


Excused absences include medical and family emergencies and are determined at the instructor's discretion.


Tardies and Absences Disciplinary Action:

CSME 1501, 1401, 1547, 1447, 1553, 1453, 2501 & 2401
Courses are limited to 5 half days: 3 Tardies equal half day absence.

CSME 1410 & 2410
Courses are limited to 4 half days: 2 Tardies equal half day absence.

CSME 2343 & 2202
Course are limited to 3 half days: 1 tardy equal half day absence.



ATTENDANCE DISCIPLINARY ACTION:

1st Notification: Written notification will be given on the 5th, 4th & 3rd half day missed.

2nd Notification: Written notification and the student will be dropped from that course.

Please Note: Administrative details are your responsibility. You must officially withdraw from the course.

Texas Department of Licensing & Regulations mandates the completion of all modules (courses) to be eligible to take the state board exam.

Lamar State College-Port Arthur mandates the completion of all cosmetology classes with a C or better to attain the knowledge and skills needed to pass your State board exam.

MAKE-UP DAYS

Make-up days will be provided for students to make up any time missed. Make-up days will be held after class. Days and time to be announced.

Community service can be used to make up time as well.
Academic Honesty    Academic honesty is expected from all students, and dishonesty in any form will not be tolerated. Please consult the LSC-PA policies (Section IX, subsection A, in the Faculty Handbook) for consequences of academic dishonesty.

Attendance Policy ATTENDANCE POLICY

Due to the Corona-virus, the attendance policy has been modified for a Hybrid Class.
Please arrive 15 minutes early to be screened before clocking in; Washing/Sanitizing Hands, Temperature Checked Daily, and submit Screening Form.

Regular class attendance is important to the attainment of the educational objectives of the college. The cosmetology program has formulated an attendance policy that is consistent with the objectives of the program and the needs of the student to fulfill all necessary requirements needed.

Poor attendance is a leading reason for termination from a job in all areas of employment. With this factor in mind, the instructor monitors student course activity daily.

Attendance is 10% of your overall grade, and will be monitored daily. (Online & Face to Face)

Face to Face/Lab Times: 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Lunch Schedule: 11:00 – 11:30 or 11:30 – 12:00. Afternoon Break: 1:30 – 1:45

Cosmetology Students may clock in as soon as the clock is turned on until 9:a.m. At 9:05 a.m. students will be marked absent.
A.M. absences will not be allowed to clock in until AFTER LUNCH.
Full time students will be attending Face to Face Lab 2 days a week. Every other week, students will attend class on Fridays from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Your instructor will provide you with additional information.
Dual Enrolled students will attend class their normal schedule.
Phase II: 8 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.    Phase I: 12:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Please Note: ANY COSMETOLOGY LAB DAYS MISSED MUST BE MADE UP.

Consult with your instructor in advance if you know you will be absent, any days missed must be made up online through Blackboard, Microsoft Teams Video Discussions, Quizlet/Quizlet Live etc.
